Ian Morrin

043 - ian-morrin-clarifybd_ppHello, my name is Ian Morrin and I am standing as a District Councillor for Burghfield and Mortimer on Thursday 2nd May.

I live in Burghfield with my wife Nicola and two young children and have been a West Berkshire District Councillor since 2015.  I am a Director of a local business employing around 80 people and have applied real-world commercial experience to my time serving on the Council.

Over the last four years I have been a member of a number of high-profile committees at the Council including Overview and Scrutiny and the Financial Challenge Panel as well as representing the residents of Burghfield as a council appointee on the AWE Local Liaison Committee.

Locally Carol and I have worked together to secure matched funding for an outdoor classroom at Burghfield St Mary’s  School, new safety railings at Garlands Schools as well as supporting the install of new LED lighting in Burghfield Village Hall.

As a founding member of the Burghfield Neighbourhood Development Plan group, I have been working towards the publication of the draft document planning document.

Planning is always a hot topic, the Thames Valley is the second fastest growing region outside of London and naturally people want to live here. It’s important that we get the right balance between new houses and the infrastructure that supports them. I am challenging officers at West Berkshire on the proposed settlement in Grazeley and am committed to ensuring that this site as well as others undergo the highest levels of scrutiny.

As an active member of the community I am involved in a number of groups including the Burghfield Santas, Scouts and am a qualified member of the Burghfield and Mortimer Ambulance First Responder Team. It’s incredibly rewarding to work with so many people that are committed to the success of our community.

I am passionate about ensuring the area offers great community spirit for families, excellent education opportunities for children, and a thriving environment for business growth.
